Usability & Reflection
Usability testing for the "Blended Learning and Gamification to Learn Math" course provided valuable insights into its design and user experience. The test group included three parents and three teachers; however, expanding this sample to encompass varying levels of technological experience could have enhanced the feedback, particularly regarding technological obstacles. Familiarity with Google Classroom influenced ease of use, especially as some parents struggled to navigate sections like classwork and assignments. The feedback highlighted that detailed guidance and visual support are essential for users unfamiliar with the platform.
Google Classroom proved helpful in organizing content, and Google Forms streamlined feedback collection. Strong points were a clear structure of modules and visually presented content.
On the other hand, instructions that were too short or unexplained were pointed out in the questionnaire, and therefore, visual aids should be added. Thus, some improvements were introduced to this course: for example, structuring the modules to make them easier to use, adding video tutorials that explain how to access resources and activities within the course, and simplifying the instructions and guides to avoid possible technical problems.
Furthermore, usability testing showed me that aligning learning objectives with activities and assessments is very important. Lastly, this pre-kindergarten math course also considered potential technology issues by providing support channels, downloadable resources for offline access, and alternatives to online activities to ensure a smooth user experience regardless of technological limitations.
