  • Progressive Education

Currently, the number of changes that affect us from a social, economic, political, and technological point of view is the result of the historical development of processes that have been transforming society since previous centuries. In this sense, in the educational field, comparing the video about progressive education in 1940 with the current education model, we first observe that we continue using the same discourse referring to meaningful learning. The video mentions that the knowledge acquired during an authentic experience is better understood and retained longer. It also refers to the fact that we must prepare our children not for the world of the road, not for our world, but for the world of the future. Second, the pedagogical approach in 1940 focused on active learning and participation, encouraging the students to develop critical thinking and exploration. On the contrary, although in current education, we continue with progressive ideas, there is the presence of standardized evaluations that only promote memorization. Third, about resources and technology. In 1940, there was no presence of technological tools; teachers were able to teach using books and a blackboard; fortunately, today that has changed, and most schools have advanced technological tools such as computers, iPads, educational platforms, and a bunch of other online resources that allow students to access information and be actively participating in learning. However, despite the positive aspects in which education has advanced, after reviewing the blog post ''People who like these things... like these things'' it is evident that some people may show resistance to positive change, which by assuming can generate uncertainty, fear of failing when trying something new or not leaving their comfort zone where for years they have applied the same teaching strategies. In the case of my organization, we have a very efficient instructional specialist who frequently promotes innovation in learning environments, strictly using the four steps mentioned in the blog (Start with why, Identify and recruit critical influencers, Install an effective execution strategy, and recruit and empower differentiated leaders). Although sometimes people resist change, they use convincing arguments to achieve the desired objective.

  • Disruptive Innovation

In the digital age in which we live, technology has become an integral part of our lives; in fact, it is an invaluable resource in the educational field that has obtained countless advantages, such as expanding learning opportunities and change how we relate to knowledge. This has allowed us to change the traditional teaching-learning process where to be able to receive necessary instruction; it is mandatory to attend a classroom to teach where, through digital strategies and resources, the student can acquire and adapt learning to individual needs, obtaining a more personalized educational experience by overcoming access barriers, offering equal opportunities to students from different backgrounds, interests, needs, circumstances and where talents can be discovered and developed. It is not enough that all these educational advances remain only in videos and are not applied to educational reality. Where governments, in many cases, are skeptical of changing the paradigm of education. For educational improvement to happen, according to Horn, it requires adapting education to the new era we live in, transforming it into a student-centered model with the power to impact each student positively. Furthermore, create conditions in all areas so that the different educational actors, governments, directors, teachers, students, parents, and other social actors get involved through specific actions from their different areas of participation and responsibility. In this way, Ken Robinson says, moving from an education model based on linearity and conformity to an agriculture model based on human flourishing where students can develop solutions.

  • Impact of the Growth Mindset

Before deciding to register for this master's degree, I asked myself how to find a way of learning to develop and integrate technology in a didactic way within the classroom since we have many tools. However, sometimes out of ignorance or fear of making mistakes, we do not use the tools appropriately, creating a limitation in teaching. Moreover, during that process of thinking about whether or not to sign up for various factors, I thought…. I think it is the opportunity of a lifetime; I need to be updated on the paths to try to modify the naturalized practices in the teaching role and be able to incorporate new perspectives. I made the decision, and my main objective in developing my studies will be to learn to build meaningful learning from a more dynamic, flexible position in which everyone can participate. After reviewing ''Mindset, the New Psychology Of Success'' written by Carol S Dweck, and the videos. I have discovered aspects that I did not know were important in my growth as a teacher. I want to develop a growth mindset in all aspects of my life by believing that everything can be achieved with effort, practice, and perseverance. To this, I apply an analogy: if you fall, the most important thing is to get up and see the positive side of that fall. I also have the philosophy that we cannot know if something is good if we do not try to know it; in such a way, My mind is open to changes. I try to try the unknown, even more so when I know that many have succeeded through that path. Regarding my opinion on the growth mindset about the integration of technology and UDL/Personalized Learning infographics, it is excellent because it helps us enhance the development of each student's skills through the motivation of the teacher, taking into account that each student has different needs, interests, and learning styles. The contents can be adapted through technology integration, using active methodology that allows each student to learn and progress at their own pace in a more dynamic and personalized environment where the challenge becomes an opportunity to learn.

  • COVA Framework

The COVA approach provides students with diverse choice(C), ownership(O), and voice(V) through authentic opportunities. This approach established meaningful learning environments (CSLE),it has significantly impacted my learning due to the fact that they are innovative technologies that allow me to choose the path to effective learning according to my interests and needs while taking ownership of my own learning experiences. Although it has not been an easy path, I am optimistic about the learning process. When I started studying at ADL, I was worried because I had doubts about presenting knowledge and learning experiences. I did not know if I was doing the right thing in the structure and development of the evaluations, so I had to change my learning paradigm in a meaningful way. I was used to traditional didactic models, where the teacher is the one who decides how the students should act. The teacher organizes, presents the information, and has total control of learning. The students can only share the assignments with the teacher; they only concentrate on a study plan where said evaluation is based on the material offered, covering what is required, and where there is little tolerance for errors and failure. If they use the portfolio, it is like storing information that is later summarized, which is a waste of time because the objective is to be corrected by the teacher to be able to complete another evaluation. Now, at ADL it is the opposite; through the COVA approach, I am in control of making decisions to achieve my academic goal. Moreover, I can say that COVA seems like a beautiful challenge where I apply the magic word "STILL" and that with effort, determination, and perseverance solve all the mistakes that I, as a human being can make. At the same time, I am learning about tools that can contribute to my educational community's ideas to change from the traditional approach to the digital future approach. And furthermore be able to contribute to developing my children's learning to reach their maximum potential.

  • The Benefit of Networking

Professional learning networks are valuable tools for people's continued growth and development. Teachers provide the opportunity to explore how to connect with other people in their field who share similar interests, access resources, share experiences, and improve their pedagogical practices. I am currently working for the Klein ISD district, where I have joined a learning network called Workplace KNET, where I joined different groups such as Grace England Early Childhood & Pre-K Center, Pre-K-5th Grade, Klein ISD Employee Discounts, New Teacher Mentor Program among others. Through this network, I can get all the information regarding Handbook policies, Human Resource Services, Campus Safety and Support, Financial Services, Accounting, and Teaching and Learning. Additionally, I am attached to Pinterest, which, although primarily known as a visual discovery platform, has a vast collection of educational resources where you can follow boards and pin resources related to lesson plans, classroom management, and professional development. Another network I recently joined was Edutopia. Its mission is to transform preschool through 12th-grade education so all students can apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills acquired and effectively necessary to thrive in their studies, careers, and adult lives. Edutopia is a popular online resource for educators and strongly focuses on technology in education. On this website, I have found articles, videos, and discussions about the effective integration of technology in the classroom. Lastly, I joined KQED Teach, a nonprofit public media station and an NPR and PBS member station based in San Francisco that offers educational resources and services for free to educators. KQED Teach is a variety of professional development courses that train educators to teach media literacy, create media for the classroom, and lead media creation projects with K-12 students. Finally, my experience as a member of these learning communities has been positive and enriching. It has allowed me to go beyond the simple exchange of knowledge, providing support, inspiration, and personal and professional opportunities for growth, resulting in better teaching practices.
